Detecting Excellence

Children in all the P6 classes have been developing good study skills through their regular reading detectives tasks since P5. The teacher-team are often impressed by the creativity children show in interpreting tasks and value the effort and enthusiasm children show.

Abi and Sophia from 6B recently caught Mrs Nobel's eye with these amazing models. Abi created a scale model of a pioneer wagon, for homework based on "The Little House on the Prairie". Sophia thought carefully about the setting used in "Double Act" to create her salt dough model.

Well done, Sophia and Abi! What a super effort!

On a roll...

P5 have been flexing their collective brain power in the final week of term and have created some ingeneous board games to challenge and entertain over the summer holidays.

We set out to create games that were fair and reliable, with clear rules about how to win or end the game.

Very enterprising P5 - what a super end to the year!

Primary 5 take off

5A used the sunny weather in May to get down to the Meadows and explore forces.

We built water- and air-powered rockets, equipped ourselves with a bicycle pump and waited for the sun to come out.

You can see some of our highs and lows here.

Well done 5A - excellent team work!

Cabinet Secretary Michael Russell at Sciennes

Very well done to pupils from Mrs Barker's class for sharing their learning with the Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning when he visited Sciennes on Wednesday 16th May. All the adults, including Scottish Government officials, journalists, photographers, education visitors and the BBC were extremely impressed by the pupils and how well they are using the personal devices to help their learning. It wasn't practical to move between the two classrooms during Mr Russell's visit, but the P5 pupils who joined P6 represented their class really well.

Keep practising P5!

Roger from Scottish Opera came to visit Sciennes on Thursday 26th April and was impressed by the number of pupils that are word perfect. The teachers have worked so hard with all the classes to get them ready for their big performance on Tuesday 8th May.

Scottish Opera will return on the 8th and rehearse the pupils in the morning. Two tickets are available for each pupil on WisePay for the performance between 2.30pm and 3.15pm.

It is really important that you know all the words off by heart by Tuesday 8th because that will let you concentrate on the choreography and costumes on the day, so keep practising P5! You're doing really well!

The Big Bang Show!

SCOTTISH OPERA IN P5

Music by Marion Christie
Lyrics by Ross Stenhouse

The Big Bang Show! takes performers on a whistle-stop tour of the creation of the universe and explores the wonderful world of ENERGY. Three groups represent the different types of energy - wind, water and sun, fossil fuels and nuclear power. Each led by their own champions, they debate which is best, until Gaia (Mother Earth) points out that unless humans begin to take real reponsibilty for their use of fossil and nuclear powers, the Earth will die. She urges them to learn the lessons of natural powers while there is still time...

The Advance Workshop is this week and then there is a rehearsal and performance to families on Tuesday 8th May.
